Death happens to all of us, but ironically, we're never prepared enough for its reality. Our society shuns end-of-life conversations until it's nearly too late. We avoid the details of death because they're too difficult, only to have them come up in full force later.
We cannot avoid death, whether it's a loved one, ourselves, or a precious pet. An end-of-life consultation with a certified end-of-life doula can help you get your bearings and decide where your focus should be when it comes to caregiving, education, or planning.
End-of-Life Consultations: The Basics
When you sign up for an end-of-life consultation with me and Empowered Pathways, you'll choose from text messaging, a phone call or a Zoom meeting. You'll pick from a date and time on the Empowered Pathways calendar, and I'll give you a call or send you a text during your designated session.
We'll have about 15-20 minutes together to talk about what's on your mind. I'll provide you with an initial plan of action. Depending on your needs or my recommendations, I may follow up with you by phone, email, or in-person.
What Topics Can I Talk About During an End-of-Life Consultation?
Some of us will ask questions about a pet or loved one's condition. Others want to know more about choosing a hospice, writing a living will, or creating advance directives. More possible consultation topics that an end-of-life doula may have input or suggestions for include:
